Program

See below for the conference schedule! Refer to speakers page for more information about the speakers.

Asynchronous

Goal is to interact with the conference interactive website and participate in activities that align with the three tracks of the conference.

1. Jar of Expectations (expectations)

The different colored balls symbolize common expectations faced by Taiwanese and Taiwanese American students. Attendees are encouraged to choose a ball that represents the expectation that they feel has most affected them, resulting in a multi-colored jar of colors showcasing the frequency of these expectations.

2. Sharing our Successes (success)

Share the successes of your friends (or yourself!) and tell others of the amazing achievements around you. Attendees are encouraged to share stories of success, whether traditional or nontraditional, and celebrate each other’s successes.

3. Wall of Encouragement (support)

Attendees are encouraged to write a word of encouragement or advice that has stuck with them throughout their own paths, which will provide helpful insight to the community.

Track 1: Expectations

Expectations often cause pressure or confinement away from the freedom of choosing the best path for oneself. By expressing and identifying the various sources of expectations while relating them to personal stories or experiences can help attendees to identify their own pressures unique to the Taiwanese American experience.

Speakers: Leona Chen and Yuh-Line Niou (choose one)

Track 2: Success

Attendees will meet with traditionally and non-traditionally successful speakers who will share stories about their personal paths to their own definitions of success. This track will allow attendees to repicture or redefine their own measures of success and giving them better goals with their own hopes, dreams, aspirations in mind.

Track 3: Support

While simultaneously inspiring the attendees to dream big and get back to sketching their own path, we hope to inspire them to set healthy and free expectations on those they support. By identifying the expectations that have caused them stress and redefining how to fulfill these expectations, the attendees will be able to use their unique experience as Taiwanese Americans and to inspire and support people around them to sketch their own path.
